HOLLISTER, Calif. —

In August, just days before her 5th birthday party, Rubi Melendez was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma.

“The last two and a half months have been very challenging, very difficult. But yet we have chosen to focus on the silver linings through this process,” said Sally Melendez, Rubi’s mom.

Rubi’s story has won the hearts and support of many in her community and on social media. On Sunday, Enterprise Academy of Martial Arts in Hollister held a fundraiser for Rubi. The fundraiser was a meet and greet with Star Wars Ahsoka actor, Diana Lee Inosanto, who was there to support the cause.

“Seeing a smile on her face is inspiring. She is my hero, and we want to help our heroes in any way we can,” said Mark Preader, Enterprise Academy of Martial Arts director.

Community members who have only met Rubi through social media said coming together to help their neighbors in need is the way of life in Hollister, and they hope to help the family more in the future.
